Certificate of No Impediment for Marriage Apostille

December 16, 2019 by Admin

Are you planning to get married in another country? Have you been asked to obtain an apostille on a Certificate of No Impediment for Marriage? This type of document is commonly knows as a Single Status Affidavit.

The most popular countries we can apostille a single status affidavit are for: Vietnam, Cuba, Columbia, Argentina, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Peru, Greece, Germany,  and more.  From our experience, if you are planning to get married in a foreign country, you will be asked to obtain an apostille on your birth certificate, Single Status Affidavit, and an FBI background check.

We can apostille a single status affidavit issued from all 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia, and the U.S. Federal Government (USA Embassy Single Status). For countries who are non-members of the Hague Apostille Convention, we can also process your single status certificate through the U.S. Department of State and the Embassy or Consulate office.

If you are planning to get married in another country who is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, you will be asked to apostille a document called a single status affidavit.  In some countries, you may also be required to provide this documentation for employment.

This document may also be referred to as:

  • No Record of Marriage
  • Certificate of Freedom to Marry
  • Certificate of No Record – Marriage
  • Affidavit of Single Status
  • Affidavit of Marriageability
  • Certificate of No Public Record
  • Eligibility to Marry
  • Affidavit of Civil Status

Here is an example of a single status affidavit:

The first step is to contact the local County Clerk’s office to request a document that states you are currently not married (AKA: Single Status).  Some County Clerk offices may refer to this document as a “no record of marriage” instead of a “single status” (see list above).  Most all County Clerk offices can provide you this document so please be sure to speak to a supervisor if you are told otherwise.  A document issued from the County Clerk’s office does not require notarization.

If the County Clerk is unable to assist you and you are in the United States, you can use the sample above to write your own single status affidavit.  Basically, you are writing a sworn statement stating that you are currently not married to another person in the United States.  Be sure to have this document signed and notarized before you mail it in to our office. You should also check with the people requesting your single status if they will accept a sworn affidavit directly from you.

If you are outside of the United States, the local US Embassy or US Consulate office should be able to assist you in completing a single status and also having it signed and notarized.  Because you will be visiting a U.S. Federal Government office and having your document signed and notarized by a US Federal notary public, this document can then only be apostilled through our Washington DC apostille office.

Here is an example of a Single Status Affidavit / Affidavit of Civil Status issued from a U.S. Embassy / Consulate General:

Please Note: We can only help you with documents originating from or notarized within the United States and for another country. If your single status affidavit is originating from another country, you will need to contact the correct competent authority to assist you in that country.

What US State are your documents from?

USCIS Form G-24 Apostille

December 14, 2019 by Admin

Do you need to certify a copy of your documents through the local USCIS office?  Do you need to obtain an apostille on Form G-24 or on a certified copy of your Certificate of Naturalization?  Is your Certificate of Naturalization older than 25 years?

USCIS Form G-24 is issued by the Department of Homeland Security – U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  If the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. has rejected your Certificate of Naturalization or you would like to send in a certified copy instead of the original to our Washington, D.C. apostille office, you will need to contact the local USCIS office to certify a copy of your document.

When a naturalized US citizen needs to have a Certificate of Naturalization “authenticated” by the U.S. State Department for use in a foreign country, the local USCIS can copy the document and certify it as a true copy. “Authentication” is a term used by the U.S. Department of State and other Governments to describe what USCIS refers to as Certified True Copies. When you require a Certificate of Naturalization to be authenticated, be sure to use the term “Certified True Copy.”

If you have the original document to be certified, you must make an appointment with your local USCIS office by using the InfoPass Appointment Scheduler. When you go to your appointment, be sure to bring your original naturalization certificate and a copy of it. Also bring another form of photo identification, such as a drivers license or passport. A USCIS officer will review the documents and may certify the copy, if the officer can confirm your identity and status as a naturalized citizen.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, will provide Certified True Copies and will return these along with the supplied documentation to the requester. USCIS cannot act as an agent of the U.S. Department of State by accepting fees on behalf of other government agencies, or forwarding documentation to any other government agency. All documentation coming from a requester, along with any documentation supplied by the Department of Homeland Security, will be returned to the requester.

Here is an example of a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Form G-24 Certification of Documents from the Department of Homeland Security.

Diploma Apostille – High School, College, University

December 8, 2019 by Admin

Do you need to apostille your diploma from a High School, College, or University?

At Apostille Services we take the guesswork out of obtaining an apostille on your diploma.  We can apostille diplomas issues from all High Schools, Colleges, and Universities.  In order to apostille your diploma, it must be signed by the Registrar at the school and notarized.  Another word, the Registrar will need to meet with a notary public and certify that the diploma is an original or a true color copy of the original.

You can either have the original diploma signed and notarized or a color copy.  This would depend on the requirements of the requesting country and the school. For example, Qatar requests for your original diploma to be signed and notarized.  Typically, on the back of the diploma, the registrar would make a statement attesting to its authenticity and sign the diploma in front of the notary. The notary would then add the correct notarial wording and sign/stamp the diploma.

Step #1: The first step is to contact the School’s Registrar and inform the Registrar that you will need the original or a color copy of your diploma to be signed and notarized.  The Registrar with either ask you to mail in the original or email a color copy. Some schools request that you purchase a new diploma. If the school does not have a notary on staff, a traveling notary can visit the school and meet with the Registrar.  You can search online and arrange for a traveling notary service to visit the school when it’s convenient for the Registrar.  Most notaries are unfamiliar with authenticating a diploma for another country so it’s best to leave the apostille process to us.  The notary must follow the proper notarial laws of their State in order for the State office to authenticate the diploma.

Step #2: Once you receive your notarized diploma, go ahead and verify that the diploma has been signed and notarized.  Some schools will sign and notarize the back of the diploma while others have enough space to use the front.  Some schools may draft a signed and notarized letter on school letterhead and attach it to the diploma.

Step #3: The final step is to mail in your transcripts to our office for processing.  We have created an order form and credit card authorization form for every US State and the District of Columbia.

Please Note: We can only help you with documents originating from or notarized within the United States and for another country. If your diploma originates from another country, you will need to contact the correct competent authority to assist you in that country.

Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Apostille

December 1, 2019 by Admin

The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) is a political and economic union consisting of all Arab states of the Persian Gulf, except for Iraq. Its member states include Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.  Iraq is currently not a member.  The unified economic agreement between the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council was signed on November 11, 1981. These countries are often referred to as “the GCC states” or “Gulf countries“.

Please note that Oman and Bahrain are members of the Hague Apostille Convention but we can still legalize documents for these two countries through their respective Embassies in Washington, D.C.

At Apostille Services, we take the guesswork out of certifying, legalizing, and attesting your documents for any of the GCC Countries.  Our trained and knowledgeable staff are available Monday – Saturday from 9am to 6pm to answer your questions and provide you easy to follow step-by-step instructions.

Here is an illustration to help explain the process:

Document attestation and legalization for Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates is a multi-step process.  These steps consist of State certification, US Department of State certification, and Embassy or Consulate legalization.

Certifying and legalizing documents can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you!
