Federal Background Check Apostille

Do you need to apostille a background check issued by the Federal Government (FBI)?

The FBI background check is issued by the U.S. Department of Justice – Federal Bureau of Investigations.  In order to obtain your FBI background check, you will need to submit your fingerprints to the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) division of the FBI.  Once you receive your results, you can then send it to our office for processing.  We recommend that you contact an FBI channeler to assist you in obtaining your background check.

Note: FBI background check are not notarized nor are they processed through the Secretary of State’s office.  The only department that can apostille this document is the US Department of State in Washington, D.C.  Our office is conveniently located in Washington, D.C. and steps away from the U.S. Department of State – Office of Authentications.

If you receive your FBI background check in a digital format (PDF copy), go ahead and e-mail it to us with the completed order form and payment (see below).  If you receive your FBI background by regular mail (Hard copy), go ahead and mail it to our Washington DC apostille office with our order forms (see below).  We can process a digital PDF copy or a hard copy.  It’s your choice.

Documents originating from the U.S. Federal Government are processed directly from the U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. – Office of Authentications. San Jose Apostille

Do you need San Jose Apostille Services?

Documents originating from San Jose can be processed through our San Francisco Apostille office.  Common documents we can apostille are birth, marriage, divorce, power of attorney, notarized documents, diploma, transcripts, single status, background check, and more!  San Jose is located in Santa Clara County in California.

The first step is to contact our office so we can discuss your documents and the country requesting them.  For example, if you need to apostille your San Jose birth certificate, we will want to know when your birth certificate was issued and if it was obtained from the County Clerk’s office.  Marriage certificates issued from San Jose only require the state apostille.

In certain situations, you may need to obtain a new certified copy of your documents from the County Clerk’s office or State Registrar.  Court documents (Example: Divorce Decree) from San Jose must be a certified copy signed and stamped by the Deputy Clerk of the Court.  Documents that require your signature (Example: Power of Attorney) must be signed and notarized before you mail them to our office.  Please call us before you mail in your documents for the most up-to-date processing time and availability.

The second step is to mail in your documents with our San Francisco Apostille Order Forms for processing.  Documents from San Jose can only be apostilled in the state of California.  Our office in California is located in San Francisco.  Beware of websites that ask you to upload your documents to a company located in New York or another state.  Only original documents originating from California can be apostilled through California Secretary of State’s office.

High School Diploma Apostille

Do you need to apostille your High School Diploma?

We can apostille high school diplomas issued from all 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia. For countries who are non-members of the Hague Apostille Convention, we can also process your diploma through the U.S. Department of State and the Embassy or Consulate office.

In addition to a High School Diploma, we can also apostille diplomas issued from Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, Colleges, Universities, and Trade Schools.  Before we can process your diploma, you will need to follow the three steps outlined below.

Step #1: The first step is to contact the School’s Registrar (Example: Principal, Dean, etc…) and inform the Registrar that you will need the original or a color copy of your diploma to be signed and notarized.  The Registrar with either ask you to mail in the original or email a color copy. Some schools may request that you purchase a new diploma. If the school does not have a notary on staff, a traveling notary can visit the school and meet with the Registrar (Principal, Dean, etc…).  You can search online and arrange for a traveling notary service to visit the school when it’s convenient for them.  Most notaries are unfamiliar with authenticating a diploma for another country so it’s best to leave the apostille process to us.  The notary must follow the proper notarial laws of their State in order for the State office to authenticate the documents.

Step #2: Once you receive your notarized diploma, go ahead and verify that the diploma has been signed and notarized.  Some schools will sign and notarize the back of the diploma while others have enough space to use the front.  The original signature and the printed name of the Registrar must be on the documents including the notary’s name, signature, date of notarization, notarial wording, and stamp.  Please note that some school may draft a color letter and attach it to the diploma.  The cover letter will need to be signed and notarized by the Registrar.

Step #3: The final step is to mail in your signed and notarized diploma to our office for processing.  We have created an order form and credit card authorization form for every US State and the District of Columbia. Click this link for the forms: Apostille Order Forms

Please Note: We can only help you with documents originating from or notarized within the United States and for another country. If your diploma originates from another country, you will need to contact the correct competent authority to assist you in that country.

Los Angeles Single Status Apostille

Do you need to apostille a single status from Los Angeles?

As of the date of this article, the Los Angeles County Clerk is NOT providing a single status affidavit.  We recommend that you contact the Orange County Clerk or Ventura County Clerk for assistance.  We have referred most of our clients in Los Angeles to visit the Orange County Clerk with great success.  Please contact our office for the most up-to-date processing time, instructions, cost, and availability.

Once you obtain the single status affidavit from the local County Clerk’s office, the next step is to mail it to our office for processing.

We can apostille a single status affidavit issued from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia (Washington, D.C.), and the U.S. Federal Government (USA Embassy Single Status). For countries who are non-members of the Hague Apostille Convention, we can also process your single status certificate through the U.S. Department of State and the Embassy or Consulate office (Legalization Process).

If you are planning to get married in another country who is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, you will be asked to apostille a document called a single status affidavit. In some countries, you may also be required to provide this documentation for employment.
