Singleness Apostille

December 13, 2020 by Admin

Do you need to apostille a document that says you’re single?

A singleness letter is commonly referred to as a single status or a single status affidavit depending on who is going to issue the document.

At Apostille Services, we take the guesswork out of obtaining an apostille on single status document.

We can apostille a single status issued from all 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia, and the U.S. Federal Government (USA Embassy Single Status). For countries who are non-members of the Hague Apostille Convention, we can also process your single status certificate through the U.S. Department of State and the Embassy or Consulate office in Washington D.C.

If you are planning to get married in another country who is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention, you will be asked to apostille a document called a single status letter.  In some countries, you may also be required to provide this documentation for employment.

This document may also be referred to as:

  • No Record of Marriage
  • Certificate of Freedom to Marry
  • Certificate of No Impediment for Marriage
  • Certificate of No Record – Marriage
  • Affidavit of Single Status
  • Affidavit of Marriageability
  • Certificate of No Public Record
  • Eligibility to Marry
  • Affidavit of Civil Status
  • Single Status Affidavit
  • Apostille of Singleness

Here is an example of a single status affidavit:

The first step is to contact the local County Clerk’s office to request a document that states you are currently not married (AKA: Single Status).  Some County Clerk offices may refer to this document as a “no record of marriage” instead of a “single status” (see list above).  Most all County Clerk offices can provide you this document so please be sure to speak to a supervisor if you are told otherwise.  A document issued from the County Clerk’s office does not require notarization.

If the County Clerk is unable to assist you and you are in the United States, you can use the sample above to write your own single status affidavit.  Basically, you are writing a sworn statement stating that you are currently not married to another person in the United States.  Be sure to have this document signed and notarized before you mail it in to our office. You should also check with the people requesting your single status if they will accept a sworn affidavit directly from you.

If you are outside of the United States, the local US Embassy or US Consulate office should be able to assist you in completing a single status and also having it signed and notarized.  Because you will be visiting a U.S. Federal Government office and having your document signed and notarized by a US Federal notary public, this document can then only be apostilled through our Washington DC apostille office.

Here is an example of a Single Status Affidavit / Affidavit of Civil Status issued from a U.S. Embassy / Consulate General:

Please Note: We can only help you with documents originating from or notarized within the United States and for another country. If your single status affidavit is originating from another country, you will need to contact the correct competent authority to assist you in that country.

Obtaining an apostille can be complicated. Don’t leave this process to untrained employees or non-professionals who do not fully understand the apostille process and the unique requirements of certain countries. Your paperwork could be rejected costing you time and money. Don’t let this happen to you!

Divorce Apostille

November 27, 2020 by Admin

Do you need to apostille your Certified Divorce Decree / Certificate?

Are you divorced in the US and plan to remarry in a foreign country?  Have you been told to also obtain a document called a single status apostille?  There are many reasons why another country would ask you to apostille your divorce certificate.

In order to apostille your divorce decree / certificate, you will need to contact the Court and request for a certified copy.  A certified copy will have the seal of the Court (preferably in color) a raised seal (Embossment), and the signature of the Clerk of the Court who is attesting to the authenticity of your documents.

Some Courts may also be able to email you a certified copy in PDF format.  Please contact the Court in the County you were divorced in for instructions on how to obtain a new certified copy.  If you are outside of the US, please contact your attorney or the Court directly.  There may also be companies who can assist you in obtaining a certified copy for a fee.  We can assist you once you obtain the certified copy and mail it to our office with our order forms.  For a certified digital copy in a PDF format, you can email it to us with our completed order forms.  Our forms can be downloaded here: Apostille Order forms

For example, if you were divorced in Florida and the Florida Court can issue a certified copy in a PDF format, you can email us the certified copy with our Florida apostille order forms.

Note: Most states DO NOT provide a certified digital copy in PDF format.  Please, call the Court in the County you were divorced in for instructions on how to obtain a new certified copy.

Obtaining an apostille can be complicated. Bank Statement Apostille

November 26, 2020 by Admin

Do you need to apostille your Bank Statement?

Before your bank statement can receive the state apostille, it must be signed and notarized.  There are two ways to notarize a bank statement.  Either the representative at the bank can sign and notarize the bank statement or you (account holder) can meet with a local notary public and have your signature signed and notarized.

The easiest and best way to notarize your bank statement is to contact your bank and ask if a notary is available at the location.  Most banks will have a commissioned notary on staff who can notarize your statements without charging you a fee.  If you don’t have a copy of your statement, the bank can print out a copy at no charge.

In addition to getting a bank statement apostilled, you may be asked to also apostille other documents. For example, a copy of your utility bill, driver license, social security card, birth certificate, marriage certificate passport, etc…  Please be sure to check with the people/country requesting your documents so there are no delays or additional costs.
